The days after the concert

30th July (Saturday)

We stayed two nights at the MEININGER Hotel Munich City Center. A good-value hotel located in the centre of Munich, Holzapfelstraße tram stop was situated 150 metres away, and a 10-minute walk from Munich Main Station and the Theresienwiese beer festival location. This hotel had free Wi-Fi, brightly decorated interiors, a bar and also games room where guests can play computer games. I slept in a quadruple room with other three girls and María C. slept in a 6-Bed room (mixed).

The Buffet breakfast was available in the M-Bar, where drinks were also served in a casual atmosphere in the evening. We had an abundant breakfast before walking! Bread, milk with Cola-Cao, cereals, sandwiches with Nutella, butter... OMG! It was a big big breakfast

München-Leuchtenbergring station

München-Leuchtenbergring is a railway station on the Munich–Salzburg line in the Bogenhausen quarter of Munich. It's an elevated station above the Leuchtenbergring, part of Munich's Mittlerer Ring road system. The station serves both the eastern part of Bogenhausen (north of the railway tracks) and the western part of Berg am Laim (south of the tracks). It's served by S-Bahn lines S 2, S 4 and S 8. The tram station Ampfingstraße on line 19 is nearby

We took the metro to Marienplatz Metro Station.
Marienplatz is a central square in the city centre of Munich. It has been the city's main square since 1158. This square is dominated by the New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) on the north side. The Glockenspiel in the tower of the new city hall was inspired by these tournaments, and draws millions of tourists a year. At the east side Munich's Old City Hall (Altes Rathaus) is located. It's a gothic council hall and ballroom and tower, which have been reconstructed

Ludwig Beck, one of Munich's busiest department stores, sits in the middle of the Marienplatz. Here you can find seven floors of music, cosmetics and exclusive perfumes, alongside fashion and accessories from established labels and young designers alike. The windows are fabulous and the staff offer advice on everything from personal styling to gift-giving quandaries

The New Town Hall is a town hall at the northern part of Marienplatz. It hosts the city government including the city council, offices of the mayors and part of the administration. In 1874 the municipality had left the Old Town Hall for its new domicile. The building was built between 1867 and 1908 by Georg von Hauberrisser in a Gothic Revival architecture style

Heiliggeistkirche - The Church of the Holy Ghost

This is a Gothic hall church originally belonging to the Hospice of the Holy Ghost (14th century). It was remodeled in 1724-30 by Johann Georg Ettenhofer (vaults, renovation of pillars). Of the original Gothic church only the choir buttresses and the north wall of the nave remain. The interior of the church was renovated in 1991

Viktualienmarkt: Fantastic street market

Viktualienmarkt is a daily open-air market and square in the heart of Munich’s old town. It spans 240,000 square feet with over 140 stalls and farm stands selling everything: from freshly cut flowers to freshly butchered meat, strawberries, sweet cherries, cheese, French apricots, etc.

A lot of taxis searching tourists!

Münchner Geschenke-Stuben in Petersplatz 8 (gift and souvenir shop) where I bought a jacket, magnets and keychains, though Germany isn't one of my fav countries. I remember that the woman who was selling there was quite unfriendly and grumpy. Stupid!!! I don't like German people, sorry, but Scandinavian are much better...

The Frauenkirche is the most well known and largest cathedral in Munich. Its two towers can be seen throughout the city, and no building within the inner city can be built higher

The main shopping areas in Munich are Neuhauserstrasse and Kaufingerstrasse, both lined with large department stores and international chains. Smaller, more exclusive boutiques can be found around Maximilianstrasse and Theatinerstrasse

More shops: Bucherer, Geox, Hermann, Lederwaren, Forchammer, etc. at Neuhauser straße, Munich's main shopping street. Shopaholics are in for a treat in Munich. The city's shops combine international names and designer goods with traditional Bavarian crafts

Typical gifts might include examples of traditional clothing (Trachten), such as Lederhosen for men and Dirndl for women; beer mugs (Stein); wood carvings (Holzschnitzereien); pewter-ware (Zinn); the famous Nymphenburg porcelain and speciality foods such as Lebkuchen, Christmas Stollen, and marzipan.

A shopping-paradise par excellence begins just behind the University and lovers of literature in particular will feel at home in the antiquarian shops round Schellingstrasse

Stop for lunch! We saw a Burger King but the queue was too long!!!! And honestly, I hate Burger Kings and McDonalds. Finally we decided to go to Chinese restaurant in Sonnenstr. 3: China-Restaurant Shanghai. We thought that it could be a good option but we regretted soon because it was expensive, slow service, the quality of the food was poor, the waiter was rude (first time I see a Chinese like that because they're always very polite)... So I would not recommend anybody this restaurant!

The restaurant was big but empty. Only us and a Brazilian couple... And I understand it, cause this restaurant is not the best option. Without a doubt the worst Chinese restaurant where I've eaten. My friends thought the same too. Never again! :P

Munich is a major international center of business, engineering, research and medicine exemplified by the presence of two research universities, a multitude of smaller colleges, headquarters of several multinational companies and worldclass technology and science museums like the Deutsches Museum and BMW Museum. It's Germany's most prosperous city and makes it repeatedly into the top 10 of global quality-of-life ranking

It's replica of the original Il Porcellino, the Italian fountain statue. The original, by Pietro Tacca, dates back to 1612 and is now safely penned in Florence's Museo Bardini, but perhaps the most famous copy exists in that city's Mercato Nuovo (new market). Even the bronze original is a copy of a Roman marble scuplture which can be seen in Florence's famous Uffizi museum.

Il Porcellino is such a popular figure that copies of the statue exist in places as varied as Sydney, Munich, New York, Colorado, and Denmark. Some cities have given their copies unique quirks, such as Sydney's habit of dressing the pig in seasonal costumes to raise money for a local hospital

Finally we decided to visit The Hofgarten (Court Garden), a garden in the center of Munich, located between the Residenz and the Englischer Garten.

This building is part of The Munich Residenz: The Festsaalbau. The neo-classical 250 metre long Banqueting Hall Wing (Festsaalbau) in the north section of the Residenz was added between 1832 and 1842 by Klenze under instructions from King Ludwig I. Here were located the Large Throne Room and the royal reception halls. One of the primary concert venues for the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is the Herkulessaal (Hercules Hall), which has replaced the destroyed Large Throne Room. The Festsaalbau today houses also the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Cuvilliés Theatre (Old Residenz Theatre)

The Munich Residenz (Münchner Residenz, Munich Residence) is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs of the House of Wittelsbach in the centre of the city of Munich, Germany. The Residenz is the largest city palace in Germany and is today open to visitors for its architecture, room decorations, and displays from the former royal collections

The garden was built in 1613–1617 by Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria as an Italian style Renaissance garden. In the center of the garden is a pavilion for the goddess Diana, built in 1615 by Heinrich Schön the elder. A path leads from each of the eight arches. On the roof of the Diana pavilion is the replica of a sculpture of Bavaria by Hubert Gerhard, created in 1623. The original is in the Kaisersaal of the Residenz

Munich Airport Center

The Munich Airport Center (sometimes shortened to MAC) is a shopping, business and recreation area that connects the two terminals. The older Central Area (German: Zentralbereich), which was originally built as part of Terminal 1, hosts a shopping mall and the S-Bahn station. The newer MAC Forum built with Terminal 2 is a large outdoor area with a tent-like, partly transparent roof. Next to it is the airport hotel managed by Kempinski.

The Munich Airport Center is the only location in the entire state of Bavaria where one can shop at a supermarket from 05.30 until midnight every day, including Sundays. This supermarket is given an exception from the Bavarian shop closing law (German: Ladenschlussgesetz)
