Going to Going to Anundshög in Västerås Sweden, a magical place with runestone, shipsettings and graves

Anundshög (also Anundshögen and Anunds hög) is a tumulus  located just a couple of hundred yards outside of the City of Västerås, to the east of it. Here is Sweden's biggest burial-mound, just a short distance off the highway. This memory, built in honour of Anund rises about twelve, fifteen yards, almost as high as the trees behind it. It was built by the Vikings, in the eleventh century, that is almost a millennium ago

Stone ships

Anundshög runestone
Some historians have associated the mound with the legendary King Anund, while others regard this as speculative. It's purported also that the name is taken from the large runestone at the site, (Vs 13) the central stone in a row of 15 alongside the mound, re-erected in the 1960s and apparently marking out the route of the Eriksgata. The inscription on the runestone reads:
    + fulkuiþr + raisti + stainn + þasi + ala + at + sun + + sin + hiþin + bruþur + anutaR + uraiþr hik + runaR
"Folkvid raised all of these stones after his son Heden, Anund's brother. Vred carved the runes."

Assessments of the era of the mound vary between the Bronze Age and the late Iron Age

8 or infinity shaped Stones. Technically they are boat shaped. Here we see 2 of them

Anundshög is one of Sweden's most interesting archaeological sites

Badelunda district was an important gathering place in prehistoric times. The district was a cultural center for the entire Western Mälardalen and an important hub for trade in the Viking Age

When people traveled between farming communities at Malar coast and forest regions in the north they follow the road on Badelunda ridge crest. Here I'm on a little cute bridge

Going to the Café Anund where I enjoyed an ice-cream
