2- Portugal. 1st September 2016. Lisboa / Setúbal

Gare do Oriente or alternately, the Lisbon Oriente Station, one of the main Portuguese intermodal transport hubs, situated in the civil parish of Parque das Nações, municipality of Lisbon

The Santa Apolónia railway station, the oldest railway station in Lisbon, located in the Alfama district of Lisbon, 15 minute walk from Rossio square

Santa Apolónia is central Lisbon's main train station.
From here the whole of Portuguese inter-city train network is accessible

The station is situated on the Av. Infante D. Henrique road and the thin strip of land between the banks of the Tejo estuary and the hills of Alfama

Inside the Santa Apolonia train station there are the expected range of shops for a medium sized station, which includes a Pingo Doce supermarket (my favourite!)

António and Nina picked me up at the train station

Serradura, my fav Portuguese dessert!

Serradura or Sawdust Pudding is a Portuguese dessert made up of sweetened, vanilla whipped cream and serradura. It originated in Macau during the time when it was still a part of Portugal

To spend my first complete day in Portugal we decided to take the ferry across the river Sado to get to the resort of Troia

The Port of Setubal

Ferry boat betwen Setubal and Troia resort

If tranquility is what you want, you had better head straight for the Troia Peninsula!

Opposite the city of Setubal is the Troia Peninsula a long, narrow and very low lying sand bar. This peninsula is blanketed by pine forests and the whole area was formed by the flow of the Sado River and the strong tidal currents. Troia has the best beaches readily accessible from Setubal and the golden sands on the western side stretch the entire length of the Peninsula

The peninsular lies 2.5km south of Setubal and is connected by two ferry services. The quickest is the catamaran which connects the marina on Troia with Pier 3 in the heart of Setubal. A single ferry ticket costs € 5.80/ 3.40 (adult/child). The slower car ferry goes between the Doca do Comércio in Setubal and the Cais Sul terminal on Troia (a couple of kilometres to the south of the main town)

The three northern beaches close to the ferry landing are; the Praia de Tria Mar, the Praia Bico dos Lulas and the Praia do Troia Gale. The much longer and quiet Praia Atlantica covers much of the central part of the Troia Peninsula

Surrounded by nature

Enjoying a pleasant relaxing trip with wonderful views

Sailboat. The area is perfect for windsurfing and sailing

The small exclusive resort at the northern end of the peninsula contains hotels, restaurants and a casino while the remainder of the Peninsula is incorporated in the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado a large protected nature reserve. The Troia Peninsula is a stunning coastline and should be visited by all tourists who stay in Setubal

Boat trips in search of dolphins, beaches extending as far as the eye can see, restaurants with fresh fish and terraces on the sand... this is the simplest description of a vacation in Troia

Restaurants: In Troia there are beach restaurants and snack bars where you can taste the famous fish dishes and seafood of the region of Setubal (excellent for everyone who likes fish, which is not my case!), whilst enjoying a stunning view of the Setubal bay and Arrabida Hills, in a really relaxing and peaceful environment

Sunbathing

I'm proud of myself cause I was able to walk into the cold water!

 Calm and transparent sea!

Relaxing by the beach after the bath

I adore these golden sands that extend to the horizon,
with the clear waters of the sea on one side and the pine forest on the other

It was a gift from my friend Azucena and she wrote to me this dedication 😍
