7- Northern Portugal. 13-14th March 2018 (Porto)

Photos 13th March 2018 (Tuesday). Porto

This day I visited Vila Nova de Gaia... The historic centre of Porto and Gaia are very close and only separated by the Douro. There is much to do in Porto, but Gaia is not left out and offers many unique activities. With its quays lined with restaurants Gaia is a must for a trip to Porto, there are the best views of Porto, the most beautiful beaches, the must-see cellars of Porto and many other things!

Seagull

Invicta Ribeira Boat Hotel, a perfect accommodation in Porto which offers accommodation in União de Freguesias do Centro district of Porto. Invicta Ribeira Boat comprises of 40 rooms. The venue is just a 5-minute walking distance from D. Luis I Bridge. This hotel is 20 minutes’ walk from Porto city center

When it comes to the historic centre, Porto's terrain by the Douro River is rather steep. Bring comfortable shoes and be prepared for an urban hike... Don't miss this historic attraction while in Porto. Start from river level and hike the steps to the top, then walk across the bridge for spectacular views...

This stunning bridge can be crossed on foot, with trams
on the top deck and by foot and vehicles on the bottom deck

This bridge is the landmark which every tourist sees first in Porto

If you’re not afraid of heights – make sure you cross the bridge
on the upper level – the view from the top of the bridge is amazing!

Jardim do Morro or Morro Garden

The best view of Porto is from here... The Garden of the Morro is located in parish of Santa Marinha, in Vila Nova de Gaia. Locatet at the foot of the Serra do Pilar, near the upper board of the Dom L. Bridge, it's a fantastic viewpoint for the historical area of Porto. Built in 1927, few changes were suffered over time until, in July 2017, it was completely rehabilitated

The terminal station of the Gaia Cableway is actually a

Here the cat and a gorgeous Golden Retriever... Both so polite! :)

Morning walks

📍Mercado Ferreira Borges R. da Bolsa 19

Mercado Ferreira Borges (Hard Club) is a red iron and glass building, built-in 1885, is considered one of the finest remaining examples of Europe’s iron period. Built to replace the old marketplace in Ribeira, curiously, it was never used as a market. Vendors in the old market decided they didn’t want to move and so the building never met its intended purpose.

Throughout the years it has been used for all manner of purpose including a storage facility for military equipment, even a soup kitchen for the homeless.
Narrowly dodging demolition in the ’70s to make room for a carpark, the building has again been repurposed. The iconic red building has been restored and transformed into the popular exhibition, events, and concert space – Hard Club.

There is a terrace cafe at the front with views over Praça Ribeira and upstairs is home to microbrewery restaurant O Mercado
