The planetarium

The planetarium is currently the largest domed screen in the Southern Hemisphere, using a digital projection system to accurately depict not only the night sky but fully 3-dimensional renders of astronomical phenomena. Visitors are taken on a virtual tour of the solar system and beyond with an emphasis on interaction with the live presenter who has full control over what is displayed

In 2004, the Horizon - the Planetarium was opened. The planetarium is adjacent to Scitech, and screens multimedia space shows on an 18m domed screen

There are many different exhibitions going on within Scitech, all of which will be sure to entertain and astonish you

LED wall in the Playing with Light exhibition

Visitors enter the exhibition through an interactive tunnel containing over 20.000 LEDs that switch on and off in response to a visitors’ movement

Bendy mirror: visitors can make themselves shorter, taller, thinner, wider, and more with our adjustable bendy mirror. This multi-user exhibit allows people to explore how the shape of the mirror affects the size and orientation of the image they see. The exhibit highlights the use of adaptive optics technology in astronomy and other applications

Playing with Light: Created by the renowned Scitech in Perth, Australia, this exhibition with many applications such as vision, the beauty of rainbows, fiber optic communication, holographic security, and laser surgery, light provides the basis for much of our current technology and is largely responsible for the way we view our world

Laser sticky light
Multiple users can observe and creatively interact with a beam of light as it bounces off
the edge of surfaces placed on the table, such as shapes or even the hands of the user

Guiding light
By interacting with the Guiding Light exhibit, We can learn how the development of fibre
optic technology has enabled surgeons to perform non-invasive surgeries

Concave reflections

Paint with Infrared

This high-tech exhibit allows visitors to draw on a screen using a virtual paint brush and paint bucket. This multi-user exhibit offers a creative, colourful experience and demonstrates infrared detection technology in action. Graphics explain infrared light and highlight a range of applications

Change your view

The lens and filter effects wheel demonstrates how optical components can change the way we see our world. Visitors can rotate one of two large wheels to select a lens, filter or combination to peer through and explore its effect on light

Computer vision at the Playing with Light exhibition

Visitors observing their own shadow on a screen will notice their shadow will come to life! This multi-user exhibit showcases impressive computer vision technology, providing visitors with a full body, creative interactive experience. Graphics highlight the use of computer vision in surveillance

Wayne and me looking at our shadows

Light Lab
This multi-user exhibit allows visitors to experiment freely with a range of optical components such as lenses, mirrors and prisms using a central array of white and coloured light beams. This exhibit reinforces concepts explored by other exhibits and encourages deeper experimentation. Graphics highlight the importance of scientific research in light and other fields

Baby chicks!!!

In conclusion, I wasn't very familiar with the topic and hence I was excited.
As we were there early, we were allowed to explore the Sci Tech. There were many interesting exhibits on display. One of which was a laser harp. We could play the harp by gliding our fingers through the laser! It produced wonderful music. Other examples are the electricity from magnetism exhibit, the pull - your - own weight exhibit and the floating ball exhibit
