1- Madeira (Portugal) 6th June - 22 July 2014

My life in Madeira, the pearl of the Atlantic (June-July 2014)

How can I really sum up how much I enjoyed in Madeira? I must begin by saying that it's impossible to explain entirely. This trip went beyond my expectations. It was long time since I wanted to travel there and I had been looking for information on these islands and improving my Portuguese. I spoke via Internet with my Madeiran friend Maria Andreia about the trip and some of the things we might do :-) I knew Madeira was wonderful but it was even better I'd thought.

Almost two months living in the beautiful city of Funchal were amazing. I stayed at Residência Universitária Nossa Senhora das Vitórias situated in Funchal historical centre, Santa Maria Street nº 253, near the Contemporary Art Museum and Madeira Military Museum. The Students Residence has an architecture that combines a welcoming atmosphere with modern equipment and offers cheap prices. I believe it was a good choice.

In two months I had time to see all the island and take more than 6.000 pictures! I had some great experiences, I lived great moments with Maria Andreia and her family, which took me in as one of them. I was warmly welcomed and I will always be grateful to them for that! During these months they were like my second family: Maria Andreia, Micaela and Caty, the three sisters and their parents treated me as a member of their family, they were very kind to me and we shared many wonderful moments together :-)

After Australia, this has been my best trip!

6th June 2014 (Friday)

I went to Madeira without return ticket

The flight to go to Madeira Islands was operated by Portugalia and TAP Portugal. TAP Portugal is based in Portugal and operates flights from its main hubs located in Lisbon and Porto. There're not direct flights from Valencia to Funchal, the flights have stopover in Lisbon.

Lisbon International Airport

The plane that took me from Valencia to Lisbon. This was my worst trip, a lot of turbulence and an airplane small and really uncomfortable. The food was vomiting! The 90 minutes on this airplane were eternal!!! To forget it...

Madeira Airport Runway

The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranked it as the 9th most dangerous airport in the world, and the second most dangerous in Europe after Gibraltar International Airport. The runway was extended several times but it's still considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world! The last runway and terminal were inaugurated on 6th October 2002

Exciting landing at Madeira Airport! Just awesome!!!

This airport is situated in the municipality of Santa Cruz, a city in the eastern part of the island of Madeira. It's the second most populous municipality, behind Funchal

At the Madeira Shopping Centre. A large mall shopping centre away from the main belt of Funchal in Santa Quitéria. Built in an attractive modern style blending with typical Madeiran features, this spacious shopping centre offers 83 shops, 20 restaurants, coffee shops, snack bars and 7 cinemas (in Portugal films are shown in their original language with Portuguese subtitles). It caters for all types of shoppers and offers some great views of Madeira

Having my first dinner... Fast food ^^

Spending the evening together: with Andreia, Micaela and Caty!!!
