7-Madeira (Portugal) 13-14 June 2014

13th June (Friday)

Special  edition of the local newspaper (Jornal da Madeira)

Travessa das Torres

Another painted door :)

Jardim do Almirante Reis  in Santa Maria’s Historical Nucleus (Old Quarter).
It has been open since November 2001 and it occupies an area of about 12.940 m2.

The highlight of this garden is the cable car that establishes the link between Funchal and Monte. The concept of this garden gives place to two interpretations: on one side the sea waves and on the other side the features of our hilly topography, with the successive chain of hills towards the highlands of Funchal intersected by water courses

Madeira Story Centre in Rua Dom Carlos I, 27. The Madeira Story Centre is a spectacular modern museum about the History and culture of Madeira island. Forget the old, dusty, “do not touch” museums, Madeira Story Centre sparks interest in all its visitors. Once an old movie theatre in old town Funchal, the Madeira story Centre is a modern, interactive museum that allows you to learn more about the archipelago of Madeira through looking, touching and hearing. This unique museum will give you a panoramic view over the History of this amazing archipelago

Marítimo Funchal Store

Rua Latino Coelho, old town

The famous Funchal market (Mercado dos Lavradores) and surrounding streets
are usually crowded with joyful people creating a real festive spirit

Opposite the Anadia Shopping Centre on Rua do Visconde de Anadia
and near  the traditional Madeiran Market

In the afternoon interesting excursion to São Gonçalo

Tunnels

The civil parish of São Gonçalo is located east of the city of Funchal. Given its development all the way up the hillside, from it you can have one of the most beautiful views over the city

Miradouro São Gonçalo

As such, there is a considerable residential area on this side of the city, including hotel units and one of the two golf courses on Madeira Island – Palheiro Golfe, from where you can enjoy the beauty that characterises Funchal. São Gonçalo has about 7.300 inhabitants, and an area of 708 hectares (1,750 acres)

Funchal bay

Excellent views

Beautiful houses and villas

Magic views over the city

Hotel Ocean Gardens viewed from the hill

Spectacular and awesome view overlooking Funchal's bay!!!

This is a place for those who are not afraid of heights. Just amazing!

Hotel Ocean Gardens from the hill. Situated on a cliff top, this 4-star hotel overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and offers guestrooms with balconies only a 5-minute drive from the centre of Funchal. Leisure facilities include an outdoor pool surrounded by sun loungers

Micaela and I

Another splendid viewpoint: Miradouro do Pináculo

If you are looking for to relax there is a large bank in its centre

Nice place to take more pics of the huge ocean

More beautiful views

Restaurante O Moinho, Caminho do Esmeraldo 18

Again around Lido area, the most famous zone of Funchal

Nice balcony! Soccer decoration

Monumental Residence in Estrada Monumental (Lido district). Estrada Monumental is the main street of Lido area with around 5 kms long where you can walk and enjoy the wonderful climate and sea views, gardens, etc. A really nice place to live or for holidays
