17-Madeira (Portugal) 1st July 2014

1st July (Tuesday)

Some of the picures I took during my walking tour
from the old town to São Martinho

RG3 – Portuguese Army in Rua Corveta Estefânia, Nazaré - São Martinho

Satellite dishes

Just after eating we went to Machico :)

Under the airport runway built completely on columns with
only one end in direct contact with the ground

Inside a tunnel near Machico

MACHICO

Machico is a city and municipality in the southeast part of the island

Machico is located 17 km northeast of Funchal, northwest of the uninhabitable Savage Islands, 20 km southeast of Santana and west-southwest of Porto Santo in the extreme eastern portion of the island of Madeira

Rocky beach

Machico is  a small town, very quiet, and familiar and very welcoming

A plane

The Attractive village of Machico has a new sandy beach

This wonderful beach stretching all around the picturesque
bay of Machico has recently been enhanced with a sectioof soft golden sand

The Machico Beach is a yellow sand beach located
with about 125 meters long and 70 meters wide

We walked along this pleasant promenade
with a number of leisure and recreational facilities

The beach was full with people

Porto de Recreio (Marina)

A small harbour has been built in the bay of Machico.
It can take small and medium size vessels

In July 1419, João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão "das ilhas"
docked here, in this beautiful beach of Machico

I loved this place

Boats in the small harbor Machico

Where Teixeira and Zarco landed in Machico

Again the famous 'Bolo do caco'!!!

Every bolo do caco is a bread fanatic's dream

Enjoying the beautiful promenade/beach area

Rua do Mercado

Machico has all the amenities and services that a big city offers
particular supermarket, pharmacy, medical center, traditional shops, restaurant, hairdressers, bus, beach and promenade station

Cobblestoned streets reminiscent of medieval times

Discovering its narrow streets filled with charm.
Rua General António Teixeira de Aguiar

A statue of Teixeira stands outside the town's 15th century parish church, Igreja Matriz

Taking a break in a cafeteria near Rua General António Teixeira de Aguiar

Rua da Amargura

Eating the bolos de caco

Diga não ao abandono = Say NO to the abandonment. Beautiful work of art on the wall

Against the abandonment of dogs <3

Another plane. Funchal - Madeira (FNC) airport is 6 Km away

Restaurante O Casco in Rua do Ribeirinho

Coming home...
