16th June (Monday)

This day was the debut of the Portuguese National Team and we were getting ready for the event. The game was Germany vs Portugal at five in the afternoon (local time) and there were giant screen in Praça do Mar during all the World Cup

Scarfs, t-shirts, caps, flags, etc. Everything to support Portugal against Germany :-)

Before the match we (Andrea and I) decided to visit the CR7 Museum

Ready to start the visit

The museum portrays the life story of the Madeiran football player Cristiano Ronaldo and displays the trophies won by the Portuguese international throughout his brilliant career

The CR7 Museum tells the story of the Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and houses all of his individual and team trophies, a total of 126 trophies won

The museum opened to public on December 15th, 2013, and has an area of 400 square metres. The floor is L-shaped and was paved with traditional Portuguese cobblestones and decorated with the CR7 symbol

Two Portuguese legends: Eusebio and Cristiano Ronaldo

The exhibits trace Ronaldo’s extraordinary career from CF Andorinha to local Portuguese championship side Nacional Madeira, his moves to Sporting, then at 18 to Manchester United and then his $110m transfer to Real Madrid

On your visit, you can see iconic photographs of his career, videos and a replica of his wax statue. All the youth and professional trophies that he won playing for Andorinha, Nacional, Sporting, Manchester United and Real Madrid are on display in the museum. The four major attractions at this museum are: the 2008 and 2013 “Ballons d’Or” (now three) and the two Golden Boots (2007/08 and 2010/11)

This is the wax statgue with the FIFA Ballon D'Or 2013

Posing with the statue

Though the hair is a bit flat and fluffy by Cristiano standards and it seemed to have a few extra pounds packed on it, the statue does look a fair bit like him. Mostly in the eyebrows

Signed Manchester United t-shirt

Glory days. Manchester United feature heavily at the museum in Funchal

We enjoyed the interactive TV screen where you get photographed with a virtual Ronaldo

The interactive free photo opportunity is a nice touch

The Museum includes a shop where you can buy different  Ronaldo's products like scarfs, balls, mugs, t.shirts, teddy bears, phone covers, beach towels, bracelets, block notes, keychains, postcards, watches, pens, bottles of wine, etc. Very complete shop!
